On the news now we hear about the Mexican drug wars. Gangs have been killing many over the course of the past few years, but recently they have murdering dozens of people and it has been grabbing the eye of the media. Photographers have been on hand taking photgraphs of the scenes: bodies scattered in cities, out in the open. Tomas Bravo took this simple picture of a man who was murdered by a drug gang. The man murdered is covered in a white sheet that catches the eye and is the focal point. The white symbolizes purity and it is ironic because many of the men murdered were drug dealers and murderes themselves. Bravo also utilized the shadows, capturing the photo so that just the body was in the light. The sun shines a ray of light making it look as if the man in the bag has gone towards the "white light" and is in another place now. No longer must the man live in the darkness that has fallen over Mexico. But the man in the corner is still in the shadows, and must continue living in the dark, cruel world as if it were a burden and death was freedom.

Excellent image. Timely and effective analysis. Is this a wake up call to Americans as well?
