Pro-Side
Many people will say that the death penalty is a cruel and unusual punishment. But this, according to Gregory Kane, is only because we ourselves have never had to experience the emotional pain that the family of the victim must feel. Kane writes, "The pain of homicide victims' relatives never ends. It chips away at their souls and psyches year after depressing year". But then, what would the proper punishment for the murderer be? If he or she sits in jail- fed, clothed and even taught using tax-payer's money, would it really be fair to the family? They would, in essence, be paying to keep the murderer alive. But if they are killed, it means not revenge, but justice.
